Genetically engineered food has negative effect on the offspring of rats

OK, I know we are not rats, but we cannot ignore the possibility that something sold as a food may compromise the health of our children. A genetically modified (GM) soy flour, which is designed to be resistant to toxic weedkillers, caused infant mortality and lower birth weight when fed to pregnant rats. As if that wasn't enough, the babies stayed small and some were still dying up to three weeks after birth. All because their mommas ate GM soy flour.

If nothing else, hopefully pregnant women will read this and eat organic soy flour to avoid the GM component. My hope is that all pregnant women will research what is best for them to eat for a healthy pregnancy and healthy baby. You really are what you eat . . .

3. Where is the link to the study?
How much of the GM soy were the rats fed? Was it a comparable by body weight to the amount a human would eat or would it be like a human eating 400 lbs of the GM soy? Was the rat eating an appropriate diet in addition to the soy, or was it only fed soy for its entire gestation?
I can't see something like this as anything other than scare-mongering without validation of the study

5. I totally agree with SK. The link doesn't give enough information about the methodology (and even states that the Russians weren't clear in their methodology).

Remember when there was a huge buzz about aspartame giving rats brain cancer? My friends and I called Extra gum "hole-in-the-brain gum" because it was made with aspartame. Well, in the trials, they gave the rats so much of it that a human would have to eat almost 5 pounds PER DAY to compare proportionally.

There are enough substantiated topics to worry about. Why are you adding to the list with things that don't even have data to back them up?

7. About aspartame mentioned, one of the reasons it triggers brain tumors is it breaks down to DKP, a brain tumor agent. Read this recent study where only the rats fed aspartame got malignant brain tumors. Aspartame interacts with all drugs and vaccines and is a chemical hypersensitization agent. Some victims are also reacting to genetically engineered foods. Here is a code that will help people not get GM foods. All vegetables and fruits will have a PLU code. If it starts with 4 it means it has been grown normally with pesticides and if its starts with a 9 it means its organic. If it starts with an 8 run from it, its genetically engineered.

A ban for aspartame has been called by a member of Parliament, Roger Williams, in the UK. A bill is now in the legislature in New Mexico to ban it there. 8. This is pure mis-information. You quote a 'study' that was investigated by the UK Advisory Council on Food Safety and found to be unscientific. The rats could have been reacting to a number of factors, such as malnutrition and poor environment. The GM soya was probably the thing that kept them alive.

It is important to distinguish between good and bad science. Millions of babies have been eating GM soya foods for 10 years with no detectable harm. If you want to inform consumers than at least give us factual information.

9. As a consumer, I have no interest in GM food. I will do what I can to avoid such frankenfood. I hope others rule with their pocketbooks as well since it is the most effective means to fight the idea. I do not need to be a guinea pig for Monsanto.
