Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie return to the States
New parents Brad Pitt and Angelina are on the move with their ever-growing family. The couple recently returned to the states with all kids six in tow to hit the red carpet for Angelina's newest film The Changeling.Angelina shared a few tidbits of news with the press. "Everybody's great," she said, "The babies are getting big and healthy and developing personalities." She also shared that they've finally hired a little help a couple of nights a week, so everyone is a little more well-rested.
Angelina has also had a little work done, ink-work that is. The mom has a tattoo on her upper arm that has the map coordinates for each of her children's birthplace. She's added Nice, France to the list to honor twins Vivienne and Knox. You didn't expect Angelina to keep a simple baby book, did you?
Finally, when asked whether they planned to adopt again in the near future, Angelina replied, "I think we're going to wait a little while." Maybe in Knox and Vivienne, Brad and Angelina have finally met their match!
Tony Dovolani's wife lets him sleep through nighttime feedings
Dancing With the Stars pro Tony Dovolani and his wife Lina welcomed twins Adrian and Ariana to their family last month. The twins make three for the couple, who are also mom and dad to three-year-old daughter Luana. While fellow celeb dad of twins Brad Pitt may complain about being sleep deprived, Tony recently said in an interview that he's surprisingly well rested. That's because his wife won't let him do nighttime daddy duty during the DWTS season. Tony, who called his wife "a fantastic person," recently told Lifeline Live: "I'll give you an example -- at 3 in the morning, I got up wanting to help and she was like, 'Go back to bed. Until the season's over, you're off the hook.'"
Somebody go and get my "fantastic person" badge, because I've been the nighttime go-to girl for FIVE YEARS. Sure, I could poke him in the ribs and tell him it's his turn, but my conscience would pay when his alarm went off. But just because a women is willing to take care of nighttime awakenings, doesn't mean she doesn't get utterly exhausted. Here's a tip for Tony and other dads who get to sleep through feedings and nightmares: An offer to help goes a long way, as does giving her a sleep-in day, doing the dishes, or just taking the baby out of the house for an hour or so while she regains her sanity.
How does nighttime baby duty work at your house?
Jaime Oliver goes to great lengths to father a son
Just for dads, Celeb parenting
The husband and father of two recently admitted that when conceiving his third child with wife Jools, he really, really wanted a boy. So strong was his desire for a son, he did a little experimenting. A specialist had told him that when it comes to conceiving one sex over the other, it was all about "temperature." So Jamie bought an adult diaper, soaked it in water and froze it, cut a hole, then slipped that baby on. Can you say romantic?
Whether it worked or not, the couple doesn't yet know. Jamie and Jools are already parents to Poppy Honey, 6, and Daisy Boo, 5, and have made no secret about their desire to have a son. To see Jamie make his hilarous admission to talk show host Jonathan Ross, watch the (possibly NSFW) video below.
My favorite line? "I actually didn't plan on having this conversation." I bet!
Joely Fisher adopts a baby girl
It's a baby girl for actress Joely Fisher and husband Christopher Duddy. The couple recently adopted newborn Olivia Luna Fisher-Duddy. Not only are the new mom and dad swooning over their latest addition, but siblings Cameron, 22, Collin, 20, Skylar, 7, and True, nearly 3, are said to be doting on her as well. Olivia was adopted from the U.S., and out of respect to her birth mother, the family is keeping mum on the details.Fisher plays Joy Stark on the FOX sitcom 'Til Death opposite Brad Garrett, and Christopher Duddy is a cinematographer. The couple have been married since 1996. Fisher is active in several charities that serve needy children, such as Save the Children and Kids Care Camp.
Congratulations to the whole family!
John McCain bails on meeting with Jenny McCarthy
Newborns, Babies, Pregnancy & birth, Health & safety, Medical conditions, Development, Life & style, Celeb parenting, Rumors, In the news, Mommy wars

Presidential nominee John McCain allegedly had a date set with actress Jenny McCarthy. The topic of their discussion? Not love but, rather autism, and specifically the link between the condition and the use of thimerosal in the vaccines McCarthy believes cause autism.
McCarthy was eager to meet with McCain after learning he believes there may be a link as well, and apparently flew herself out for a meeting with the Republican senator to try to make autism a major part of the presidential campaign.
According to reports, however, McCain backed out after his flack decided the subject matter was too controversial. Right, like presidential nominees should avoid discussing anything controversial! If they did all they'd end up doing at debates was drinking Yoohoos! Although not attributed anywhere, the post on IMDB claims McCain also bailed after learning there is no hard evidence linking vaccines with thimerosal and autism. Either way, McCain declined to meet with the former Playboy centerfold (huge mistake, dude!) and McCarthy has now set her sites on meeting with Senator Obama.

Sharon Stone wanted to botox son's feet?
Kids 8-11, Divorce & custody, Health & safety, Medical conditions, Life & style, Celeb parenting, Rumors, Behaving badly, Childcare, Single parenting

Given the spate of media bs floating around the Internet these days part of me finds it hard to believe a rumor that anyone would want to botox their kid's feet. Then, part of me realizes the drama is surrounding Sharon Stone and thinks there could be a kernel of truth to the rumor. After all, the actress and one-time sexpot has basically gone off the wall in recent years, making crazy statements and acting crazy in general--and it no longer seems like a publicity stunt to draw attention and viewers to Basic Instinct 2.
Stone is mom to eight-year-old Roan, and her custody of him is currently under question. Allegedly she has lost custody of her son after overreacting to his foot odor by thinking he should get botox in his feet. According to reports (rumors!) the judge agreed that Stone was overreacting and causing pain to her child, and has granted primary custody to the actress' ex, Phil Bronstein. Sharon will get to see him one weekend a month.
That seems so terrible for a mother to lose custody of her child and to only be able to see him on a monthly basis. I would be crushed if that happened to me. Of course, as crazy and hormonal as I am in the last stages of pregnancy, I still wouldn't think it was a good idea to botox my son's feet. Poor Sharon--she really must be suffering from some sort of emotional disorder or complications from her brain surgery to make those sorts of decision (if they're true, and they appear to be).
The Duggars are expecting a(nother) girl!
Pregnancy & birth, Celeb parenting
On Mother's Day, Michelle Duggar surprised her family with what has probably become a not totally unexpected announcement: She was pregnant, and her 18th child was due on New Year's Day. The family recently visited with the Today show and revealed that their latest addition will be a girl. That makes things a little more equal at home; once this baby is born, the family will have 10 boys and 8 girls. But welcoming a new sister isn't the only change going on in the Duggar household. Eldest son Joshua, 20, recently married his home-school group sweetheart, Anna. The two will be setting up house near the Duggars in Arkansas. Does Anna embrace the Duggar's "we'll welcome as many children as we're blessed with" lifestyle? Is this the beginning of The Duggars: The Sequel? Or will the young couple show a little more reproductive restraint?
As for Michelle, she's not closing the door on motherhood just yet. "We would love more," she told the Today show. "We really believe each child is a gift from God. We would love to receive more gifts if the Lord sees fit. I guess we'll just wait and see." What that means is, watch for another "surprise" announcement next fall or winter, I think!
Heath Ledger's estate will go to his daughter
Heath Ledger may have been taken from his daughter Matilda's life far too soon, but thanks to cooperation on the part of his family members, his earnings will be taking care of her financially for a long time to come.Heath had a will, but he'd signed it two years before Matilda was born and never updated it. He left his estate to his parents and sisters. Though he had roughly $118,000 in assets, some estimate his estate to be worth around $16 million. There was speculation that former partner and mother to Matilda, Michelle Williams, might challenge the will, but that never happened. Instead, Health's family has gifted the entire amount to Matilda.
Health's family said from the time of his death that Michelle and Matilda would be provided for, and they've been true to their word. It's a tribute to Heath that his family followed through with what they thought he, as a dad, would have wanted. And as Susan reminded us back in June, it's a reminder to all parents to have paperwork up to date so that, in a worst case scenario, kids are taken care of.
David Beckham set to launch kids books

Soccer superstar David Beckham is set to launch a series of books aimed at getting kids to read through soccer. These days, Beckham is known as much for his celebrity lifestyle and products that carry his name as he is for his Euro football moves. In addition to fashion plate wife Posh and three sons, David lays claim to cologne among his other endeavors.
Beckham is not planning on writing the books, however, and will hire a ghostwriter to pen them. The books will be set in both London and his new home of Los Angeles and will focus on his soccer academies. My main question is whether or not there will be a character based on Posh!
Clay Aiken's baby health scare
Newborns, Health & safety, Medical conditions, Celeb parenting, That's entertainment

Mr. Aiken, welcome to the wonderful world of parenting. Sure, it's one filled with joy and happiness, but it's also, more than occasionally, one filled with fear. Clay Aiken learned about this less seemly side of parenting just weeks after the birth of his son. Aiken's son Parker was diagnosed with pyloric stenosis, which affects the gastrointestinal tract, the symptoms of which had the American Idol star fearing for his young son's health.
Parker was throwing up everything he was eating and Aiken feared he would become dehydrated. Prior to that he'd been gassy for several weeks. Aiken was concerned about taking his son to the hospital, but then realized that, as the child's father, he would be given access to the hospital and that he had a responsibility to ask the questions his baby could not.
See, parenting brings out the best in us (at least most of the time). Aiken is well on his way to being a great dad. And, it's thanks to celebrities, much of the time, that the public becomes aware of certain health issues. Before yesterday I'd never heard of the pyloric stenosis condition, nor was I aware of its symptoms, which not might seem that bad to a new parent unaware of the hidden dangers of such symptoms in newborns. Luckily, Parker and family are doing well and the little tyke is well on the road to recovery.
Ewan McGregor won't spoil his kids
Never mind celebrity parenting, when it comes to parenting in general, Ewan McGregor is a refreshing change. He recently told the Daily Express that he and his wife have created a life that shields their three daughters from the celebrity lifestyle. Not only do they keep the girls out of the public eye, they also work hard to instill good, old-fashioned values in them to prevent their dad's celeb status from going to their heads."Giving kids whatever they want is disastrous parenting," McGregor said. "There's no sense of something earned." The star, who has several upcoming movies, says that they don't buy the girls the latest cell phones or iPods just because their's have become out of date, and they set firm boundaries that include manners and being polite. He went on to say about his girls, "What they care about is what all kids care about: their friends, feeling safe, feeling loved, and being free to express who they are."
Just because you can give your kids everything, doesn't mean you should. The McGregor family seems to really understand that, and even if their girls don't agree right now, in the long run it'll be a lesson they're sure to appreciate.
What's going on with the Jolie-Pitts?
It was bound to happen eventually. The rumor mill has consistently been putting out teasers that there's trouble in Jolie-Pitt paradise. Unnamed sources, always reliable at being anonymous, at least, say that Angelina is ticked that Brad's spending so much time away from home, while she's stuck with six kids to tend to. There are even reports that she's threatened to leave him if he doesn't shape up.While I don't put much stock into what unnamed sources have to say, I think the timing is interesting. Life with four kids seemed to keep the couple busy enough, but now there are twin newborns in the house, which has to drastically add to both parents stress levels. While I'd never describe Angelina as "stuck" anywhere, considering her usual pace, having two nursing infants does limit her activities. For a world traveler like Angelina, I can see how that might make her antsy.
There were days during my new parenthood, when I couldn't find my way to the shower until dinnertime and my sole purpose on the planet seemed to be to nourish my newborn, when I felt insanely jealous that my husband got to go to work every day. I wonder if Angelina sees Brad heading off to promote movies and attend premieres and feels like life is moving on without her, or if it's all just rumor and she's settling into life as a -- for the moment -- stay-at-home mom to her growing family. What do you think?
Gwyneth Paltrow - Mommy blogger?
Life & style, Celeb parenting, Media
I have to confess, I like Gwyneth Paltrow. I appreciate how honest she is about the vagaries of her life as a mom -- about how hard it was to lose the the baby weight, for example, and her bout of post partum depression. I was impressed to read that she doesn't employ a professional chef, but does all her family's cooking herself. (Although if I were a movie star married to a rock star? I would TOTALLY have a chef. I'm just sayin'.)Paltrow has a new project -- no, not the PBS cooking show, another new project: she's launching a lifestyle web site called GOOP. That name makes me cringe a little (because "GOOP" in all caps like that? really?) but what makes me cringe even more is the site's tone. In the introduction, Paltrow writes: "My life is good because I am not passive about it. I want to nourish what is real, and I want to do it without wasting time. I love to travel, to cook, to eat, to take care of my body and mind, to work hard. I love being a mother who has to overcome my bad qualities to be a good mother. I love being in spaces that are clean and nice."
I may be a little cynical here (or a lot, whatever) but it seems to me that it's probably easier to overcome "bad qualities" when you have a nanny and a personal trainer helping out. I'm not knocking either of those things (I wish I had both, frankly) but as a mom who can only keep half the flat spaces in her house clear at any moment (right now I'm typing at a table that is covered with bills and baseball gear and things to be returned to various stores) I'm a little put off by the tone of GOOP. I love to travel and cook, but I also love to pay the bills on time, which means that I spend most of my day working, which leaves precious little time to either "nourish what is real" or waste time.
GOOP is broken into six categories: Make, Go, Get, Do, Be, See. When the site is fully launched, each category will include essays written by Paltrow (maybe on how to keep your spaces clean and nice? or how to stop wasting time?). GOOP strikes me as a sort of Martha Stewart for Moms kind of thing, and I'm having the same response to it that I have to Martha Stewart and her craft projects: sure, I COULD make that wreath for the front door out of corn husks that you dry yourself, but really, I'll just wind up buying one at the store because I have to go to work and fold eleven thousand loads of laundry and help the kids with their homework.
I like Gwyneth Paltrow, I really do, and I honestly would like to live more like her. But first I have to figure out how to get all this crap off the table so I can get some work done. Or is that just wasting time?
Nicole Kidman credits miracle pregnancy to waterfall swim
Whenever there's a rash of pregnancies among a group of friends or co-workers, you'll often hear the joke: "There's something in the water!" In new mom Nicole Kidman's eyes, however, that might really be true. According to Nicole, she thought she'd never get pregnant and carry a baby. But after swimming in Kununurra waterfalls of the Australian Outback, she got pregnant with Sunday Rose. Not only did Nicole get pregnant, but so did six other women who were working with her on her latest film Australia. Out of the seven, six gave birth to girls and one to a boy. Nicole says that the Kununurra falls should be called "fertility waters."
Women who struggle with infertility get a lot of unhelpful advice: Just relax. Go on vacation. You're trying too hard. Does Kidman's suggestion that a swim in pristine waters can promote fertility fall into that same category ? Or do you think the star could be on to something?
